Ukrainian drones targeted two major military facilities deep inside Russian territory overnight, according to the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU). In a post on social media, the agency said it had successfully struck a military airfield in Primorsko-Akhtarsk and a defense industry plant in the city of Penza.
The first target, the SBU said, was the Primorsko-Akhtarsk airbase in Russia’s southern Krasnodar region. The facility is reportedly used for the storage and launch of Iranian-designed Shahed drones, which Russian forces have frequently deployed in attacks on Ukrainian cities. According to the SBU, the Ukrainian long-range drones hit areas used for storing and launching the drones. Following the strike, a fire broke out at the airfield, suggesting significant damage.
The second strike hit the Elektropribor factory in Penza, a facility known to be part of Russia’s military-industrial complex. The factory produces digital equipment for military command systems, as well as components used in aircraft, armoured vehicles, naval vessels, and even space systems. The SBU said its drones successfully impacted the target, with explosions followed by visible smoke reported in the vicinity.
The SBU added that these operations are part of an ongoing campaign aimed at weakening the military and economic capacity of the Russian Federation. While Ukrainian officials rarely confirm such cross-border operations publicly, the SBU has taken a more open stance on claiming responsibility for strategic strikes in recent months.
There has been no immediate comment from Russian authorities on the reported strikes. Russia has previously downplayed or denied similar attacks on its territory.
These drone strikes come amid increased efforts by Ukraine to target Russian military infrastructure far from the frontline, in a bid to disrupt Moscow’s logistics and force a redistribution of air defense resources.
