Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Oleksandr Syrsky reported that the advance of Russian troops in Sumy region has been stopped.

According to him, the line of combat contact in this direction has been stabilised, and in certain areas, Ukrainian units are successfully employing active defence tactics and liberating captured territories.

‘Based on the results of May-June, we can say that this year’s wave of attempts at a “summer offensive” by the enemy from the territory of the Russian Federation is faltering, just like last year’s attempt at offensive actions by the enemy in the Kharkiv region,’ the commander-in-chief said in a statement.

As a result of the fighting in this direction, the Armed Forces of Ukraine have pinned down approximately 50,000 Russian army personnel, including paratroopers and marines.

“Our offensive actions in the Glushkovsky district of the Kursk region forced the enemy to send a certain part of its troops to defend its territory. This significantly reduced the offensive capabilities of the main enemy force in the Sumy direction,” Syrsky emphasised.

In addition, the command of the group in the North Slobozhanskyi direction has created a special group on the defence of the Sumy region – cities and communities of the region.

‘The construction of additional fortifications, the organisation of “kill zones”, the construction of anti-drone corridors to protect our soldiers and ensure more reliable logistics for our troops are obvious tasks that are being carried out, but the speed of execution of such tasks must be significantly increased,’ the commander-in-chief concluded.
