Ukraine has made its first export of biomethane to the European Union. The export was cleared by the Energy Customs of the State Customs Service, the agency reports.
“For two years, work has been carried out with the participation of people’s deputies of Ukraine, representatives of the Ministry of Finance and the State Customs Service of Ukraine, operators of the gas transmission system and gas storage facilities, experts, civil society and biomethane producers to amend the legislation of Ukraine related to customs control and customs clearance of biomethane,” the statement said.
Biomethane is exported through a pipeline network. Biomethane is a renewable fuel made from agricultural waste that can replace natural gas in the energy market.
“The export of this fuel will facilitate integration into the EU energy space, as well as the development of a sustainable economy. This event is another confirmation of Ukraine’s innovative potential and its readiness to implement environmentally friendly solutions in the energy sector,” the State Customs Service added.
