During this period, Russia is also expected not to strike the Ukrainian capital.
This was stated by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
“We have just spoken with representatives of the President of the United States. They have already begun working with the Russian side today. From the moment of this conversation, we are ready to observe a cessation of air strikes on the cities involved in the negotiation process,” Zelenskyy said.
According to him, Ukraine will refrain from strikes on Moscow through Monday, inclusive.
The president also said that the plan of diplomatic events in Kyiv on September 6 involving the U.S. team had already been approved.
“We are waiting for Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner and are ready for a substantive conversation,” Zelenskyy said.
Separately, the president said he had heard reports from Defense Minister Yevhen Khmara and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Mykhailo Drapatyi on the situation at the front, the dynamics of threats in Ukraine’s airspace, as well as further steps and active defensive operations.
As a reminder, on September 5, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that Putin had ordered Russian forces not to strike Kyiv for three days starting at midnight. The reason was the preparation for and holding of a meeting in the Ukrainian capital with U.S. negotiators Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner.
That same day, Witkoff and Kushner arrived in Moscow as part of a new diplomatic mission aimed at ending Russia’s war against Ukraine. After talks in Russia, they are expected to travel to Kyiv.
