Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced that Ukrainian sanctions against more than 700 vessels of the Russian shadow fleet came into force on Saturday.
‘This is a significant part of the Russian fleet that transports oil and other energy resources and provides money to prolong the war […] The package includes ships that sail not only under the Russian flag, but also under the flags of other states — more than 50 jurisdictions,’ Zelensky said on social media.
“And we will work to ensure that each of these ships, each ship-owning company and the entire infrastructure of Russian oil and other energy exports is also blocked by our partners. We support the concept of a complete ban on the provision of maritime services to ships involved in the export of Russian energy resources,” Zelensky added.
Ukraine’s allies have imposed sanctions on several hundred ships of the Russian ‘shadow fleet,’ as well as on the companies and operating firms that own them.
According to Ukrainian intelligence estimates, allies have imposed sanctions against 555 vessels, while according to the European Union, 557 vessels are under sanctions.
