Ukraine’s negotiating team held a second day of meetings in the United States with representatives of the US president. According to Volodymyr Zelenskyy, there are signals that prisoner exchanges may continue.
The president said this after receiving a report from the Ukrainian delegation following the talks in the US.
Zelenskyy noted that the meetings took place over two days — yesterday during the day and evening, as well as today. At the same time, the US side is currently focused primarily on the situation around Iran.
He stressed that despite this, Russia’s war against Ukraine must be brought to an end, and this position is shared globally. Zelenskyy thanked the American public for supporting a “just and dignified peace” for Ukraine.
He emphasized the importance of ensuring that the aggressor is not rewarded and that strong security guarantees are in place for Ukraine and Europe to prevent future wars.
Zelenskyy also said that once the negotiating team returns to Ukraine, there will be a detailed discussion of the talks, as some aspects cannot yet be discussed over the phone for security reasons.
According to the president, there are signals that exchanges could continue, which would confirm that diplomacy is working.
At the same time, Zelenskyy said that Russian President Vladimir Putin shows no willingness to end the war.
He stressed that Ukraine, together with its partners, will continue to do everything possible to bring the war to an end.
