President Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a meeting on the development of Ukraine’s ballistic missile capabilities and the implementation of the FREYJA anti-ballistic program. Ukraine expects to achieve the required results during 2026–2027.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a meeting on the development of Ukraine’s ballistic missile capabilities and the progress of tasks under the FREYJA anti-ballistic program.
The head of state announced this on social media on Thursday, August 6.
According to Zelenskyy, the agencies and organizations involved in the programs reported on current needs and the stages already completed. The meeting also established a timetable and designated officials responsible for parts of the programs that need to be accelerated.
The National Security and Defense Council, the prime minister, the Ministry of Defense, the Foreign Intelligence Service, the command of the Ukrainian Air Force, the Brave1 team and Ukrainian defense companies are involved in the work.
Zelenskyy stressed that only a small number of countries have managed to develop their own ballistic missile capabilities and create a new anti-ballistic system.
“Ukraine has this capability. Ukrainians possess the necessary scientific foundation and expertise. We can state that our weapons manufacturers have also reached the required level,” the president said.
According to him, Ukraine expects to achieve the necessary results during 2026–2027.
The participants also discussed access to critical components, technological cooperation with partners and the localization of production.
Zelenskyy said the FREYJA program was moving forward and that Europe needed a large-scale joint system capable of protecting against ballistic threats. Ukraine expects more partner countries to join the Anti-Ballistic Coalition.
The meeting also addressed cooperation with partners regarding PAC-2 and PAC-3 missiles. The president said he expected the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Defense to deliver results in talks with the countries already identified.
