Ukraine is initiating an urgent meeting of the UN Security Council in response to Russia’s massive attacks. Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha announced the move.

According to him, every Russian missile launched at Ukraine carries a message that goes far beyond Ukraine’s borders.

“It is meant to convince the world that violence can replace law, fear is stronger than solidarity, and cruelty goes unpunished,” Sybiha said.

The minister called on the Democratic Republic of the Congo, which holds the Security Council presidency, and other Council members to support Ukraine’s request for an urgent meeting.

“Delay or a weak response cannot stop terror. Only decisive, principled, and timely action can do that,” Ukraine’s foreign minister stressed.

Sybiha said the international community must unite to deter the aggressor and continue advancing a comprehensive, just, and lasting peace in accordance with the UN Charter.

The Foreign Ministry’s statement came after new massive Russian strikes against Ukraine. Overnight on July 6, Russia launched a combined attack using missiles and strike drones, with Kyiv as the main target. According to Ukraine’s Air Force, Russia used 419 aerial attack weapons — 68 missiles and 351 drones.

At least 12 people were killed in Kyiv as a result of the attack, and dozens more were injured. Residential buildings and civilian infrastructure were damaged.
