Ukraine and Russia have completed the first stage of prisoner exchange under the agreements reached on 16 May during negotiations in Istanbul. Under the ‘1000 for 1000’ format, 390 Ukrainians have returned home.
This was reported by the Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War.
Among those released are 270 servicemen of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, including the Navy, Air Assault Forces, Territorial Defence Forces, as well as the National Guard and State Border Service.
The released defenders protected our land in the Donetsk, Luhansk, Zaporizhzhia, Kharkiv, and Kherson regions, and also took part in battles in the Chernihiv, Sumy, and Kyiv regions.
In total, Ukraine has returned 270 prisoners of war and 120 civilian hostages home. The next stages of the exchange are expected to take place in the coming days.
