US President-elect Donald Trump has criticized Joe Biden’s decision to pardon his son Hunter Biden, calling it a “blatant abuse of power” and a “miscarriage of justice.”
This is reported in Trump’s post on Truth Social.
“Does Joe Hunter’s pardon include those I call ‘January 6 hostages’ who have been imprisoned for several years? This is a blatant abuse of power and a miscarriage of justice!”
Trump used the term “January 6 hostages” to refer to the participants in the storming of the Capitol on January 6, 2021. He and his supporters consider these individuals to be political prisoners and insist that many of them have been unfairly prosecuted.
As previously reported, two former leaders of the right-wing radical Proud Boys movement were sentenced to 15 and 17 years in prison last September for their role in the assault. In total, more than 1,100 people have been charged in this case, of whom 600 have already been convicted.
The harshest sentence was handed down to Stuart Rhodes, leader of the far-right organization Oath Keepers, who was sentenced to 18 years in prison.
