Former MP Yevhen Muraiev, suspected of treason, has been found in China. This became known after his first interview since the beginning of the full-scale Russian invasion.
The last post on Muraiev’s Telegram channel was published on February 25, 2022, the second day of the war. Now he has published a new interview.
According to the interview, Muraev has an office in Beijing, in the Galaxy SOHO building. The interview was conducted by propagandist Alexander Lazarev, who previously worked as a pseudo-expert for pro-Russian figures such as Viktor Medvedchuk, Anatoly Sharii, and Muraev himself.
Muraiev was notified of suspicion in July 2023 under articles on high treason and violation of the equality of citizens based on their racial, national, or religious beliefs.
According to law enforcement officials, Muraiev used the controlled Nash TV channel to spread pro-Russian narratives and manipulate public opinion in favor of Russia. He also headed the Nashi party, which is banned in Ukraine.
In February 2022, the British Foreign Office reported that Russia was considering appointing Muraiev as a “Ukrainian leader” after the occupation.
President Zelenskyy imposed sanctions against Nash TV channel on February 11, 2022.
On November 30, 2022, the SBU searched Muraiev and his associates, finding weapons and rubles.
Muraiev faces up to 15 years in prison.
