Great Britain has changed the format and objectives of the peacekeeping mission that will operate in Ukraine after the end of the active phase of the war with Russia.

This is reported by The Times.

According to the publication, the command of the British army has abandoned the plan to create a 30,000-strong contingent to protect Ukraine’s ports and cities. Instead, a more “realistic mission” has been proposed, which includes guarding the airspace over western regions of Ukraine, training Ukrainian military personnel, and demining the Black Sea.

Sources note that some European countries considered the deployment of a large contingent too risky and were unwilling to send a sufficient number of troops. This caused disappointment among other participants.

The current plan involves providing logistical support, weapons, and instructors for the restoration and re-equipment of Ukraine’s Ground Forces, particularly through training in western regions. It also includes patrolling the airspace with Typhoon or F-35 aircraft to protect the sky and restore international air travel.

Additionally, coalition countries plan to demine the Black Sea and ensure the safe passage of ships to and from Ukrainian ports.

Recall that the “Coalition of the Determined” was announced by British Prime Minister Keir Starmer in March of this year. In April, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported that French and British troops would be the first to arrive in Ukraine. French President Emmanuel Macron had spoken about increasing the number of peacekeepers to 50,000. Austria also expressed readiness to send its units.
