Sweden and Denmark will jointly purchase and transfer air defense systems worth SEK 2.6 billion (US$290 million) to Ukraine to help repel Russian attacks.
This was reported by Reuters with reference to the defense ministries of both countries.
Sweden will finance the purchase of Tridon air defense systems worth 2.1 billion kronor. These systems were developed by BAE Systems Bofors (BAES.L), the Swedish division of the defense group. Denmark, according to Swedish Defense Minister Pål Jonsson, will contribute about 500 million kronor.
“This means that Ukraine will be able to form an air defense battalion if it wishes,” he said during a joint press conference in Gothenburg, Sweden, with his Danish counterpart Troels Lund Poulsen.
As noted, this purchase not only supports Ukraine on the battlefield by providing it with additional material resources, but also strengthens production capacity in Sweden.
Sweden and Denmark have remained among Ukraine’s most consistent supporters for many years, providing military and humanitarian aid since the first days of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
