In Donetsk, Russian FSB officers have detained a man accused of orchestrating the car bombing that killed Serhiy Yevsiukov, the former head of the Olenivka penal colony.

The FSB claims the suspect planted an explosive device under the vehicle and remotely detonated it. According to the agency, the detainee was allegedly acting under instructions from the Main Intelligence Directorate of Ukraine’s Ministry of Defence. The Russian Investigative Committee stated that the man was promised $10,000 for carrying out the operation.

The explosion, which occurred on 9 December in Donetsk, killed Yevsiukov and injured his wife.

Yevsiukov was in charge of the Olenivka penal colony at the time of a deadly missile strike on 29 July 2022, which killed 53 Ukrainian prisoners of war and injured 75 others. The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine has accused Russia of being responsible for the attack.
