In Kyiv, following a nighttime Russian attack, rescuers are eliminating the consequences of strikes on the territory of the Kyiv Pechersk Lavra and the Mystetskyi Arsenal. As a result of the shelling, the roof of the Dormition Cathedral and the building of the museum complex caught fire.
This was reported by the State Emergency Service of Ukraine.
The fire on the roof of the Dormition Cathedral covers an area of about 800 square meters. A fire also broke out in the building of the National Cultural, Artistic and Museum Complex “Mystetskyi Arsenal” over an area of 1,000 square meters.
According to Deputy Prime Minister for Humanitarian Policy Tetiana Berezhna, the scale of the damage will be assessed after the aftermath of the attack has been fully dealt with.
Tetiana Berezhna reminded that the Kyiv Pechersk Lavra is included in the list of sites under enhanced protection in accordance with the Second Protocol to the 1954 Hague Convention.
According to her, an attack on such a site is one of the gravest crimes against the world’s cultural heritage.
