During the Kursk operation, the Special Operations Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine used tactical groups, psychological operations, the Resistance Movement, and drones for the first time in a comprehensive manner. This created multi-layered pressure on the enemy and ensured the rapid advance of the main forces. And the Special Forces began preparations for the August offensive in Kursk region several months in advance.

Small groups of CCOs entered the enemy’s rear in the Kursk region of Russia while Russia continued to carry out air strikes in Sumy region in June 2024.
“The CCO operators were moving through the territory of the Russian Federation in advance in preparation for the Kursk operation long before the world learned about the main offensive of the Ukrainian Defense Forces. Through careful reconnaissance and strikes on enemy rear structures, they destroyed key elements of Russian defense in the border region,” the statement said.
The targeted strikes on Russian air defense systems, ammunition depots and enemy logistics made it impossible to quickly deploy reinforcements. This allowed the SSO to bring the main contingent of Ukrainian troops along prepared routes, and the August offensive in Kursk began with minimal resistance from the Russian army.
