The grounds of the National Reserve “Sofia Kyivska” were damaged on September 4 following a Russian strike on the Security Service of Ukraine building in central Kyiv. St. Sophia’s Cathedral itself was not damaged, but windows were blown out across the reserve, a glass entrance structure was destroyed, and the Consistory building was damaged.
Nelia Kukovalska, director general of the National Reserve “Sofia Kyivska,” told Suspilne Kultura about the damage.
According to her, the damage to the reserve was caused by the strike on the SBU building located in central Kyiv near St. Sophia’s Cathedral.
Windows were blown out on the reserve grounds and a glass entrance structure was destroyed. The Consistory building, whose exterior faces Volodymyrska Street, was also damaged.
Kukovalska separately stressed that St. Sophia’s Cathedral itself sustained no damage.
St. Sophia’s Cathedral and the surrounding monastic buildings form part of the National Reserve “Sofia Kyivska.”
