Shooting of prisoners of war in the Vremivka sector: investigation launched

In the Vremivske direction in the Volnovakha district, the Russian military committed another war crime by shooting four prisoners of war of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

According to the Donetsk Regional Prosecutor’s Office, on 22 December 2024, information about the crime was posted on the Telegram channel. During the artillery shelling, four Ukrainian defenders took refuge in a private house. After being surrounded by the occupiers, they left the building and were taken prisoner.

Two of the prisoners were left lying on the ground, and two more were taken to the road. Later, all four were cynically shot. This crime is a gross violation of the Geneva Conventions.

The pre-trial investigation into the violation of the laws and customs of war, which caused the death of people (Part 2 of Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine), is being conducted by investigators of the SBU Main Directorate in Donetsk and Luhansk regions.

Law enforcement officers are currently conducting investigative actions to establish all the circumstances of the crime and identify the persons involved.
