Oleh Poberezhniuk, commander of the 211th Pontoon and Bridge Brigade of the Support Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, has been served a notice of suspicion. He is accused of inaction by the military authorities under martial law or a combat situation (part 4 of Article 426 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine), the Prosecutor General’s Office reports.

According to the investigation, from February to July 2024, the commander was aware of cases of torture and inhuman treatment of subordinates committed by the commander of one of the platoons. However, he did not take any measures to bring the officer to justice, which effectively covered up the violations.

Law enforcement officers conducted searches at the suspect’s place of residence. He has now been detained, and the issue of choosing a measure of restraint is being considered.

Earlier, both the platoon commander who abused the soldiers and the brigade commander were served with suspicion notices for inaction in this situation.

The pre-trial investigation is being conducted by the State Bureau of Investigation.
