Moldovan President Maia Sandu presented Volodymyr Zelenskyy with the Order of the Republic, the country’s highest state honor. During their meeting in Chisinau, the two leaders also discussed security, energy, European integration and the development of alternative logistics routes.

The Office of the President of Ukraine reported the outcome of the talks.

Zelenskyy arrived in Chisinau to mark Moldova’s Independence Day. He assured Sandu that Ukraine would continue supporting Moldova’s sovereignty, territorial integrity and path toward the European Union.

The Ukrainian president briefed Sandu on Russian strikes that damaged border crossing points with Moldova. Because of attacks on Ukraine’s port infrastructure, the leaders discussed using alternative logistics routes through Moldovan territory.

The presidents paid particular attention to preparing the two countries’ energy systems for winter. They agreed to coordinate efforts to improve their resilience.

Zelenskyy and Sandu also discussed opening all EU negotiating clusters in the near future and continuing the two countries’ joint progress toward membership in the European Union.

Other topics included national minority rights, cybersecurity, countering disinformation and strategic communications.

At the end of the meeting, Sandu presented Zelenskyy with the Order of the Republic. The Ukrainian president said the award belonged to the entire Ukrainian people — military personnel, civilians and families resisting Russian aggression.
