Authorities in Ukraine’s Sumy region are considering the deployment of mobile fuel stations following a Russian attack during the night of June 17. Local gas stations were among the targets of the strike.

This was reported by Sumy Regional Military Administration head Oleh Hryhorov, according to hromadske.

Hryhorov said that, according to the authorities’ assessment, fuel infrastructure was one of the main targets of the attack.

“We clearly see that the goal was the destruction of gas stations. The enemy is trying to disrupt logistics that are critical for medics, utility services, and the functioning of communities,” he said.

In addition to gas stations, civilian houses were damaged. Four people were injured as a result of the shelling.

Authorities are currently inspecting the damaged facilities. Together with community leaders and gas station owners, they are assessing the extent of the damage and determining timelines for restoring operations.

The regional administration does not rule out certain difficulties with fuel supplies, but notes that reserve stocks have been accumulated for emergencies and blackouts to ensure the operation of critical services.

According to Hryhorov, over the past two years the region has worked with gas station owners to strengthen protection of fuel infrastructure, including the installation of anti-drone nets and other engineering protection measures.

“If such protection had not been in place, the consequences could have been much worse,” Hryhorov stressed.

Earlier, Trostianets community head Yurii Bova reported that Russian forces struck gas stations in the city during the overnight attack.

“Twenty-three Russian Shahed drones attacked Trostianets last night. The strikes targeted civilian infrastructure,” the statement said.
