On the night of September 10, during a massive attack by the Russian Federation on Ukraine, Russian “Shahed” strike drones crossed the Polish border. Due to the threat of attacks, four airports were closed and aviation and air defense systems were put on alert.
This was reported by the Operational Command of the Polish Armed Forces.
At 00:42, the Ukrainian Air Force reported the approach of Russian strike UAVs to the Polish border. Monitoring channels also reported the movement of several groups of Russian UAVs towards Poland – there were about a dozen “Shaheds.”
Aircraft were deployed to ensure the safety of Polish airspace. According to the Operational Command of the Polish Armed Forces, ground-based air defense and radar detection systems were put on high alert. The Podlaskie, Mazowieckie, and Lubelskie provinces were under threat.
Due to the incursion of Russian UAVs, the airspace of four Polish airports – Rzeszów, Lublin, Warsaw, and Modlin – was also closed.
Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said that the Polish military had used weapons against the targets.
“I received a direct report from the operational commander,” Tusk wrote.
