Russian drones attacked the city of Konotop in Ukraine’s Sumy region on the morning of June 8. A 78-year-old woman was killed in the strike on a residential area, while three other people were injured.

At around 05:10 on June 8, Russian forces attacked Konotop with drones. Civilian infrastructure and residential areas of the city came under attack, according to Sumy Regional Military Administration chief Oleh Hryhorov.

Later, Hryhorov reported that rescuers had recovered the body of a 78-year-old woman from under the rubble. Three other people, including a child, were injured.

The Sumy Regional Prosecutor’s Office said the Russian drone struck an apartment building. Two women aged 75 and 41, as well as a 44-year-old man, were hospitalized. An eight-year-old boy was diagnosed with an acute stress reaction.

Konotop Mayor Artem Semenikhin reported that part of the city was left without electricity following the attack. He also said that rescuers believed a person could be trapped under the rubble of the apartment building.

Prosecutors and law enforcement officers are documenting the consequences of the attack. Under the procedural supervision of the Konotop District Prosecutor’s Office, a pre-trial investigation has been launched into a war crime that resulted in the death of a civilian under Part 2 of Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
