Overnight on October 19, Russia launched several waves of attacks on Kyiv and the Kyiv region using 16 ballistic missiles, while also deploying more than 200 drones in strikes across Ukraine. The attacks damaged more than 10 energy infrastructure facilities, left at least 550,000 households without electricity and caused deaths and injuries.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported the attacks.
According to Zelenskyy, Ukraine once again received no warning from its partners about the ballistic missile attack, which unfolded in several waves throughout the night.
The main targets of the Russian strikes were energy facilities and infrastructure. A medical clinic, a school, a metro station and residential buildings were also damaged.
Russian forces also deployed more than 200 drones of various types, including jet-powered Shahed drones. The strikes affected areas ranging from the Kharkiv and Dnipropetrovsk regions to the Volyn, Rivne and Odesa regions.
Overnight and in the morning, energy facilities came under attack in the Vinnytsia, Volyn, Kirovohrad, Kyiv, Mykolaiv, Zhytomyr, Khmelnytskyi, Kharkiv, Ternopil, Odesa and Rivne regions.
Zelenskyy said repair crews were working to restore damaged infrastructure, while the injured were receiving medical assistance.
The president also stressed that Ukraine had supported every proposal from its partners for a ceasefire and an end to the war, but Russia continued its attacks. He said Putin was interested neither in ending the war nor in taking any steps toward de-escalation.
Zelenskyy also criticized Ukraine’s partners for blocking deliveries of missiles for Ukrainian air defense systems while simultaneously easing or postponing sanctions against Russia.
“When the supply of missiles for Ukrainian air defense is blocked, while Russia receives sanctions relief or delays, this is, unfortunately, a denial of reality on the part of our partners,” the president said.
