On the evening of August 5, Russian forces attacked the civilian vessel Mera Queen in the Black Sea. The ship, sailing under the flag of Guinea-Bissau, was carrying Ukrainian wheat. A Ukrainian sailor was killed in the strike, while three other people were injured.
This was reported by the Ukrainian Sea Ports Authority and Head of the Odesa Regional Military Administration Oleh Kiper.
The attack damaged the vessel’s hull and caused a fire on board. The crew was evacuated to shore, and the injured are receiving the necessary assistance.
As of 6:00 a.m. on August 6, the vessel had been moored at a berth. Specialists are carrying out urgent work to contain the consequences of the strike and stabilize its technical condition.
The Ukrainian Sea Ports Authority noted that for more than a month, Russia has been attacking Ukraine’s port infrastructure and civilian merchant vessels almost daily. These ships are located in the waters of Ukrainian ports and travel through the Ukrainian maritime corridor.
