Russia’s Syzran oil refinery halted operations after a Ukrainian drone attack on May 21 damaged a primary oil processing unit.
Reuters reported this, citing two industry sources.
According to the agency’s sources, the CDU-6 crude distillation unit, which accounts for more than 70% of the plant’s capacity, was shut down after the attack. The sources also said repairs could take more than a month.
The governor of Russia’s Samara region earlier said that two people were killed in a drone attack on the town of Syzran.
The Syzran refinery’s nameplate capacity is 8.5 million metric tons of oil per year, or about 170,000 barrels per day. In 2024, the plant processed 4.3 million tons of crude oil, producing 1.5 million tons of diesel fuel, 800,000 tons of gasoline and 700,000 tons of fuel oil.
