Racketeering gang led by local deputy neutralized in Dnipropetrovs’k region

Law enforcement officers exposed a criminal gang that terrorized residents of Dnipropetrovs’k region. The leader of the group was a deputy of the local council.

According to the SBU, the criminals extorted money from entrepreneurs, and in case of refusal, kidnapped them, tortured and threatened to kill them. One of the victims was a military officer. 

The incident occurred when the soldier was on his way to his unit’s base. The criminals stopped his car, kidnapped him right in the middle of the road and took him to a forested area. There, they beat him and threatened him with death for an hour, and later held him in a prepared room, demanding money and re-registration of his business.

The leader of the group was detained by the SBU during another threat. During the searches, the SBU seized firearms and cash, allegedly obtained illegally.

The leader of the gang has already been served a notice of suspicion, he and his accomplices face up to 12 years in prison with confiscation of property.
