Ella Pamfilova, chair of Russia’s Central Election Commission, briefed Vladimir Putin on the State Duma election campaign. The ruling United Russia party received the first position on the ballot.
Russian media reported this, citing a transcript of the meeting published by the Kremlin.
Pamfilova attributed the result of the draw to luck and insisted that the procedure had been fair.
“You know, everything was fair, the drum was transparent. United Russia drew the first number,” she said.
According to the election commission chief, the Communist Party of the Russian Federation had received the first position on the ballot in the two previous election campaigns.
Pamfilova also said that only two parties have no participants in Russia’s invasion of Ukraine among their candidates: Yabloko and the Party of Direct Democracy.
United Russia has nominated the largest number of such candidates — 52 people.
Pamfilova also said that the election was taking place in an “extreme situation,” claiming that “anything can now be expected from the Kyiv gang of child killers.” She therefore promised to introduce “unprecedented security measures.”
