Russian President Vladimir Putin made a number of statements during a press conference following his visit to Belarus regarding the war against Ukraine, relations with the West, and Russian defense spending. This was reported by Russian media.

In particular, Putin said that Russia is ready for a third round of talks with Ukraine. According to him, the heads of delegations are discussing the date. At the same time, he acknowledged that the draft memoranda between Ukraine and Russia on conflict resolution are “directly opposite.”

        Putin’s main points:

        • Russia is ready for a new stage of negotiations with Kyiv, the date is still being agreed upon.
        • Moscow’s and Kyiv’s peace proposals differ sharply.
        • Putin accused the collective West of aggressiveness, saying that Russia itself is not an aggressor.
        • He said that the West was rearming under the pretext of “mythical Russian aggression,” but “let it rearm.”
        • The Russian president acknowledged the country’s significant defense spending of 13.5 trillion rubles, noting that it came at the cost of rising inflation.
        • He said that Russia is seeking to complete the so-called “special military operation” with the desired result, and that defense spending is aimed at this, not at aggression against Europe.
        • Putin spoke harshly about economic sanctions: the West “wants to bury Russia’s economy” but “will soon die themselves.”
        • He also said that relations between Russia and the United States were “leveling off” and that “the first steps” had been taken.
        • Regarding the possibility of a meeting with Donald Trump, Putin said that such a meeting is “quite possible” and Moscow would be “happy to prepare it.”

These statements came after Putin’s talks with Alexander Lukashenko in Minsk.
