Protests held in Ukrainian cities over Mykhailo Fedorov’s dismissal

Protests were held in Kyiv and Dnipro on August 16, with participants demanding that Mykhailo Fedorov be reinstated as defense minister and that reforms in the defense sector continue.

        This was reported by Suspilne.

In Kyiv, the protest march began near the Arch of Freedom. According to Suspilne, around 1,000 people joined the demonstration. Most participants called for Fedorov to be returned to the post of defense minister.

The rally took place on a day participants describe as the anniversary of the start of the protests. The first demonstrations against Fedorov’s dismissal began on July 16.

In Dnipro, around 100 people joined a march in support of the former defense minister. Participants walked through the city center, urging the authorities to reinstate Fedorov and continue the changes he had launched in the defense sector.

One participant in the Dnipro protest said the demonstrators wanted to remind the president and the Verkhovna Rada of their demands ahead of August 18, when parliament is expected to return to work after a break.

Mykhailo Fedorov was dismissed as defense minister on July 14 along with the government of Yulia Svyrydenko.
