Ukraine’s Prosecutor General Ruslan Kravchenko said he had signed a notice of suspicion for Semen Kryvonos, the director of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU). According to Kravchenko, the NABU chief is suspected of forging official documents in order to obtain an especially large amount of unlawful benefit.

Kravchenko made the statement in a video address published on September 14.

“Based on the collected evidence, I signed a notice of suspicion for NABU Director Semen Kryvonos,” Kravchenko said.

He also said he was confident in the collected materials and was ready to make them public.

Separately, Kravchenko announced another suspicion notice which, according to him, concerns a person close to the head of the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office (SAPO). He claimed that this person could have influenced High Anti-Corruption Court (HACC) judges, offered them unlawful benefits and assisted in evading mobilization.

Kravchenko linked this criminal proceeding to searches at the Prosecutor General’s Office and said it became the “trigger” for actions by anti-corruption bodies.

He also reiterated his position regarding the “Carthage” case, in which he himself does not have procedural status. Kravchenko claims that the purpose of the searches was to gain access to materials of criminal proceedings involving NABU and SAPO employees. He had previously publicly stated that he had no procedural status in the case.

Kravchenko also said that before making these decisions he had been “politically restrained by the president.”

On September 8, Kravchenko submitted his resignation as Prosecutor General amid an investigation related to employees of the Prosecutor General’s Office. He himself was not a suspect in that case.
