Energoatom has stated that the occupiers are deliberately not connecting the Zaporizhzhya NPP to Ukraine’s power grid, despite the power line being in good working order. Instead, the plant is running on diesel generators, which poses a threat to nuclear safety.

This is stated in a press release by Energoatom on Telegram.

On September 23, the only line through which the Zaporizhzhia NPP received power from Ukraine’s power grid was shut down. After that, the NPP switched to diesel generators.

According to Energoatom, the power line is operational in the territory controlled by Ukraine and there are no technical obstacles to its use.

“Despite this, the occupiers deliberately do not connect the station to the power supply, continuing a crude disinformation campaign against Ukraine. In this way, they are knowingly endangering millions of people across the continent,” the statement said.

Diesel generators are only intended for emergency power supply to nuclear power plants and are not capable of meeting the station’s needs for a long time.

“Their shutdown could lead to a loss of control over the nuclear safety of the facility. We call on the international community and partners to increase pressure on the aggressor country. The plant must be immediately returned to the control of its sole legal operator, Energoatom, to prevent a radiation and nuclear disaster,” the company said.
