During his address to the participants of the European Council meeting, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy urged EU leaders not to limit their efforts to defending Ukraine alone, but to act strategically to prevent Russia’s aggression from being repeated elsewhere.
“So we should see our actions not only as defense, although that is the main goal. We also need to shape our policies in a way that stops the spread or repetition of Russia’s destructive tactics — in Europe or anywhere else,” Zelenskyy emphasized.
The President warned that Moscow is trying to turn cold weather into a weapon by deliberately targeting Ukraine’s energy infrastructure and civilian sites, aiming to leave people without light and heat. He stressed that such actions are a test of a new form of warfare that could threaten other nations as well.
Zelenskyy also called on the European Union to provide Ukraine with long-range weapons, use frozen Russian assets to finance defense, strengthen sanctions, and accelerate Ukraine’s accession to the EU.
