More than 400 cases of vote-buying are being investigated in Moldova

The General Inspectorate of Police of Moldova reported that law enforcers are investigating more than 400 cases of vote buying.

“We are now documenting more than 400 cases where voters sold their votes for money. They face fines of up to 37.5 thousand lei. Most of the suspects are cooperating with the investigation and providing information that can serve as evidence,” the police said in a statement.


On October 20, 2024, Moldova held a national referendum on EU accession and presidential elections. Current President Maia Sandu and former Prosecutor General Alexandru Stoianoglo go into the second round of elections, while supporters of EU accession won the referendum
