On the night of August 16, Russian forces carried out a missile strike on ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih. Two people were killed in the attack, while 13 employees of the company and contractor organizations were injured.
The company reported this on the official ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih Facebook page.
Initially, the company reported one fatality. As of 10:16 a.m., rescuers found the body of another person during search operations. The death toll therefore rose to two.
Following the strike, the company activated its emergency response plan. Firefighters, rescuers, medical personnel and occupational safety specialists are working at the site. The injured are receiving the necessary medical treatment at hospitals in the city.
The attack damaged key facilities of the plant’s energy and blast-furnace operations. Production processes at the plant have been partially halted.
Company specialists are assessing the extent of the damage, as well as the possibilities and timeframe for restoring operations.
The company stressed that ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih is a civilian mining and metallurgical facility.
The plant was also hit by a missile strike in 2022. At that time, a rolling mill was destroyed and one of the plant’s employees was killed.
