On the night of January 9, Russian forces carried out a massive combined attack on Kyiv using drones and missiles. As a result of the strikes, people were killed and wounded in the capital, with fires and significant damage to residential buildings and civilian infrastructure reported.






Throughout the night, updates on the attack and its consequences were provided by the head of the Kyiv City Military Administration, Tymur Tkachenko, and Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko. According to their reports, the Darnytskyi, Dniprovskyi, Desnianskyi, Pecherskyi, Shevchenkivskyi and other districts of the capital came under attack.
In various parts of Kyiv, drones and their debris fell and struck residential and non-residential buildings, causing fires in high-rise buildings, private houses, garages, a shopping center and on the grounds of a health facility. Facades, roofs, apartments, vehicles, shops and critical infrastructure facilities were damaged. In the Dniprovskyi district, residents were evacuated from residential buildings following the strikes.
According to updated information as of the morning, at least four people were killed in Kyiv, including a medical worker. The number of injured has risen to at least 19, with some of them hospitalized. During repeated shelling in the Darnytskyi district, medics and rescue workers who arrived to provide assistance were injured.
As a result of the strikes, power and water supply disruptions were reported in the city. Emergency services are working at the sites, and efforts to eliminate the consequences of the attack are ongoing.
Ukraine’s State Emergency Service said the strikes targeted residential areas of the capital, with numerous fires and destruction recorded. Rescue and firefighting operations continue, and information is being specified.
