Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said that the position of U.S. President Donald Trump’s administration on ending Russia’s war against Ukraine has allegedly “radically changed.” He made the statement in an interview with the Hungarian YouTube channel Ultrahang, with quotes published on the Russian Foreign Ministry’s website.
According to Lavrov, after the summit in Alaska, Trump “publicly and directly stated” that the goal was not a ceasefire but a “stable and long-term peace.” Now, the Russian minister claimed, Washington is only talking about an “immediate cessation of hostilities.”
“This is a radical change. It also means that the Europeans neither sleep nor eat as they try to ‘twist the arms’ of this administration,” Lavrov said.
He also added that the United States is “under enormous pressure from European hawks, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, and others who do not want any U.S.-Russian cooperation.”
The U.S. side has not officially commented on Lavrov’s remarks.
