A farewell ceremony was held in Kyiv for journalist Viktoria Roshchina, who died in Russian captivity in 2024. She was 27 years old. The ceremony took place at St. Michael’s Cathedral.
This was reported by Suspilne.
Viktoria Roshchina covered Russian crimes in the temporarily occupied territories from the beginning of the full-scale invasion. In 2022, she was first detained in Berdyansk by representatives of the Russian Federal Security Service, held for several days, and released after recording a forced video.
In August 2024, Roshchina disappeared in the temporarily occupied territories, where she had gone to prepare a report. Her family appealed to law enforcement agencies and international institutions. Subsequently, the Security Service of Ukraine confirmed that Roshchina had been taken prisoner by the Russians.
On October 10, 2024, her death was announced. According to representatives of the Main Intelligence Directorate, Viktoria was on the exchange list and was soon to return to Ukraine. The criminal proceedings in the case of her disappearance have been reclassified as a war crime combined with intentional murder.
