Russia may launch a large-scale campaign of strikes on Kyiv’s energy infrastructure within the coming weeks. The Kremlin expects to take advantage of Ukraine’s shortage of ballistic missile interceptors.

The Russian side will try to take advantage of Ukraine’s shortage of means to intercept ballistic missiles. One of the goals of future attacks may be to disrupt measures to strengthen energy facilities in the capital.
Amid the threat of new strikes, President Volodymyr Zelensky on August 5 called on local authorities to implement resilience plans ahead of the winter period. Among the main tasks, he named the protection of critical infrastructure, ensuring the necessary number and quality of shelters, as well as strengthening Ukraine’s anti-ballistic capabilities.
On August 8, Zelensky said that Ukraine effectively has no undamaged power plants left. Russian strikes, he said, have also destroyed many railway stations, hospitals, universities and civilian businesses.
