        Kostyuk loses to Andreeva in Roland Garros semifinal but set for career-high ranking

        Ukrainian tennis player Marta Kostyuk ended her Roland Garros 2026 campaign in the semifinals. She lost in straight sets to neutral athlete Mirra Andreeva but is set to reach a new career-high position in the WTA rankings after the tournament.

        According to Suspilne Sport, Ukraine’s second-ranked player reached a Grand Slam semifinal for the first time in her career. On her way to the final four, she defeated Elina Svitolina in an all-Ukrainian quarterfinal.

        In the semifinal, Kostyuk lost to Andreeva 1-6, 3-6.

        The opening set lasted 34 minutes, with Kostyuk winning just one game on her serve after falling behind 0-4.

        Andreeva also started strongly in the second set, taking a 3-0 lead. Kostyuk managed to reduce the deficit and earned her first break of the match at 2-4, but was unable to build on the momentum. Andreeva immediately regained control and served out the match.

        Statistically, Kostyuk had a slight edge in winners, 15 to 14, but committed 34 unforced errors compared to Andreeva’s 22. The Ukrainian also recorded four double faults and landed 51% of her first serves.

        Marta Kostyuk (Ukraine, No. 15 seed) — Mirra Andreeva (No. 8 seed) — 0-2 (1-6, 3-6).

        Despite the defeat, Kostyuk is enjoying the best season of her career. She won 17 consecutive matches during the clay-court season and captured the biggest title of her career at the Madrid Open WTA 1000 tournament, where she defeated Andreeva in the final.

        Following her first-ever Grand Slam semifinal appearance, Kostyuk is projected to rise to No. 12 in the live WTA rankings, a new career-best mark.
