In the town of Perechyn, Zakarpattia region, a stork has brought a Ukrainian flag to its nest — a touching gesture that local residents have embraced as a symbol of love for home.
Yevhen Veselskyi, a local resident, captured the moment in a series of photos and shared them on the Facebook page “Perechyn, with love,” captioning them: “Without words, he said it all: this is my home, my land. Even a bird knows where its heart belongs.”

Speaking to the outlet Zakarpattia 24, Veselskyi explained that the nest, along with several others, is located on the grounds of a local business where he works. The nests were built over 20 years ago by his friends to provide a safe home for the birds, and the one adorned with the flag is almost always occupied.
He added that the business owner, Slovak citizen Štefan Vaľo, has long taken special care to make the area welcoming for storks, creating small ponds and wetlands to ensure an ample supply of frogs — a favourite food. Nearby, road signs even warn drivers: “Frogs under protection.”
Social media users responded warmly, seeing the stork’s act as a hopeful sign for Ukraine’s future.
