The French Navy on Tuesday stopped the oil tanker Deliver as it was passing off the coast of Sicily in violation of maritime law, French President Emmanuel Macron said.
La Marine Nationale a arraisonné mardi le pétrolier Deliver alors qu’il transitait au large de la Sicile en infraction avec le droit de la mer.

According to him, the operation was a new action against Russia’s “shadow fleet” and took place several days after a similar operation by the United Kingdom.
Macron said such actions demonstrate Europe’s determination to counter attempts to evade sanctions.
“We will not allow the shadow fleet to circumvent sanctions and finance Russia’s war effort,” the French president stressed.
He said Europe is determined to keep pressure on Russia.
According to Macron, European countries will make every necessary effort to increase the cost of the war for Russia and help bring about a “robust and lasting peace” in Ukraine.
