A car has hit people in the center of the German city of Mannheim. At least one person has been reported dead.

According to preliminary reports, two people were killed and 25 were injured, 15 of them seriously. A large-scale police operation is underway in the center of Mannheim. Debris can be seen at the scene, and at least one person is lying covered with a tarpaulin.
According to police, the incident occurred in the central Paradeplatz square. Police and emergency services are working at the scene.
It is reported that the driver of the car has been arrested. The police asked citizens to avoid the city center and drive around a large area.
