Ukraine’s Defense Forces repelled a large-scale mechanized assault by Russian troops near the village of Shakhove. According to the 1st Azov Corps of the National Guard of Ukraine, units from two Russian armies and a tank division took part in the offensive.

On July 22, Russian forces from the 8th and 41st armies, as well as the 90th Tank Division, attempted to break through in the corps’ area of responsibility. Dozens of armored and light vehicles were deployed in the assault.
Units of the 41st Army and the 90th Tank Division advanced from the area of the settlement of Novoekonomichne. At the same time, forces of the 8th Army moved out from the area of the village of Vozdvyzhenka.
For four hours, Russian troops attempted to enter settlements near Shakhove.
To support the offensive, the enemy used Gerbera and Lancet attack drones, as well as a Tornado-S multiple launch rocket system.
Mine and explosive barriers were placed along the routes of the mechanized columns, while tactical aircraft damaged bridge crossings. During the assault, Russian forces attempted to restore the crossings using pontoons, but these were also destroyed by Ukrainian Air Force aircraft.
Units of the 1st Azov Corps of the National Guard, the Security Service of Ukraine’s Special Operations Center A, the Unmanned Systems Forces, the Ukrainian Air Force, the State Border Guard Service, the National Guard and the Armed Forces of Ukraine took part in repelling the attack.
According to the corps, Ukrainian forces destroyed seven tanks, six armored combat vehicles, one BM-21 Grad multiple launch rocket system, one Tornado-S multiple launch rocket system, three pieces of special equipment and 47 light vehicles during the battle.
The corps also reported that 123 Russian troops were killed and another 29 were wounded.
The Russian mechanized assault was repelled.
