Oschadbank said it will seek the return of its armored vehicles and valuables that were detained in Hungary following an incident on March 5, 2026. The bank’s employees who were detained together with the vehicles have already returned to Ukraine, but the bank’s property remains detained.
As reported by Oschadbank, the case concerns two armored cash-in-transit vehicles and valuables worth $40 million, €35 million and 9 kg of bank gold.
The bank said further protection of its rights in resolving the incident will proceed in two directions. The first involves challenging the restrictive measures regarding the employees’ stay in the EU, which were imposed by Hungary’s migration service on members of the bank’s cash-in-transit team. The bank will also examine the alleged violation of employees’ rights during their detention for more than 24 hours without access to legal assistance and consular support.
The second direction involves taking legal steps to recover the bank’s property — the armored vehicles and the valuables being transported.
Oschadbank stressed that the transportation of funds was carried out under an international agreement between the bank and Raiffeisen Bank Austria, and the cargo was оформлено in accordance with international transport rules and European customs procedures. The bank also holds a valid license for international transportation issued by the State Service of Ukraine for Transport Safety.
According to the bank, the funds were being transported from Vienna to Ukraine and belong to Oschadbank. They had been entrusted to the bank by Ukrainian citizens and businesses and were intended for further circulation and to supply the country’s cash market.
Oschadbank said it is fully confident in the legality of its actions and has submitted the full set of information and supporting documents to the National Bank of Ukraine. The bank also plans to engage one of the leading international companies to conduct an independent audit of the processes and contractual relations related to the transportation of funds and valuables.
