President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has signed Decree No. 817/2024, which enacts the decision of the National Security Council to ban the transfer of medical personnel to the infantry.

The Cabinet of Ministers has been instructed to develop regulations prohibiting the appointment of persons with medical education to non-medical positions.

The only exceptions will be cases where such appointment is made at the healthcare worker’s own request.

In addition, the government should review the mechanism of reservations for conscripted medical workers, rehabilitation specialists and other representatives of the medical sector within a month.

Earlier, several Ukrainian MPs wrote that military medics were being transferred to the infantry. In particular, according to MP Anna Skorokhod, a rehabilitation specialist she knows was “transferred to the position of a rifleman” and has actually stopped performing his functions as a medic.
