President Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a coordination meeting on the situation in the regions following the overnight combined strike by Russian missiles and drones and instructed the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine to deploy additional forces to protect the skies over the Sumy region. He announced this after the meeting.
According to the head of state, nearly 50 missiles were used in the attack, including 22 ballistic missiles, as well as 297 drones of various types. A significant portion of the aerial targets was shot down, and the president thanked Ukraine’s partners for supplying air defense missiles, stressing that protection is needed every day.
This time, the targets included not only energy facilities but also logistics, particularly railway infrastructure, as well as water supply systems in cities. Zelenskyy said that with regional representatives they discussed in detail the need to scale up protection and promptly take into account changes in Russian tactics.
In the Boryspil district of Kyiv region, a church was damaged as a result of the strike, and residential buildings were damaged in several other regions. Assistance is being provided wherever needed.
The president recalled that the day before, in the Shostka district, a Russian drone deliberately struck an ambulance, killing three people. He stated that Russians must feel the consequences for every such strike, and that protection against drones must increase in border and frontline regions.
The Minister of Internal Affairs also briefed on details of the investigation into the terrorist attack in Lviv. Several people have been detained, all facts will be clarified within the framework of procedural work, and law enforcement authorities will provide additional information later.
