Russia’s strike on Ukraine overnight on August 20 was one of the largest-scale attacks. The occupiers used various types of missiles and 168 drones during the assault. Ukrainian air defense shot down all Kalibr missiles and 93% of cruise missiles, while ballistic missiles remain the biggest threat.
This was stated by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
“This Russian strike was one of the most cynical, calculated and large-scale. There were various types of missiles and 168 drones,” Zelenskyy said.
Ukrainian forces managed to destroy all Russian Kalibr missiles.
“Our warriors shot down all Russian Kalibr missiles today. Overall, the interception rate for cruise missiles was 93%, and a significant percentage of drones were also shot down,” the president said.
At the same time, Zelenskyy stressed that ballistic missiles pose the greatest danger to Ukraine.
“The biggest threat is ballistic missiles. And this is something that depends entirely on supplies of missiles for Patriot systems to Ukraine, and therefore depends on our country’s partners,” he noted.
The president called on partners not to remain inactive amid Russian attacks. In Kyiv and the Kyiv region alone, 30 residential buildings, a school, a children’s hospital and a kindergarten were damaged. At the time of the statement, 15 people were known to have been killed in the capital. More than 600 State Emergency Service rescuers and police officers were involved in dealing with the aftermath of the strike in Kyiv, Brovary and Boryspil.
