Martial law in Ukraine will end when security guarantees are in place, including monitoring and the presence of partners. US President Donald Trump also promised to consider security guarantees for Ukraine for 50 years.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy made this statement on 29 December in response to questions from journalists.
According to the president, a ceasefire does not in itself mean the end of the war, as without security guarantees there remains a risk of renewed aggression from the Russian Federation. The final decision will also be made taking into account the position of the military command and the readiness of the infrastructure.
Zelenskyy also said that Ukraine will definitely have security guarantees from the US for a period of 15 years, with the possibility of extending this period. The relevant agreements have already been agreed upon by the teams and approved at the presidential level.
