President Volodymyr Zelensky has confirmed Ukrainian long-range strikes on the Moscow region overnight on September 20. According to him, one of Russia’s key oil industry facilities and a logistics site supporting the Russian war machine were hit.
Zelensky announced this in an address.
The president said several types of Ukrainian long-range weapons were used in the operation: FP-1, RZ-100, MICH-2000, Palyanytsia, Vendetta, Liutyi, Bars, Flamingo, Sichen and Pelican.
Zelensky thanked the Security Service of Ukraine, the Unmanned Systems Forces, the Special Operations Forces, the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine and the Foreign Intelligence Service for the effectiveness of the operation.
“One of the key facilities of Russia’s oil industry and an aggressor logistics site were hit. These are billions of dollars that support the war machine,” the president said.
Moscow and the surrounding Moscow region came under a large-scale attack overnight on September 20. Russian authorities confirmed that several drones reached the territory of the Moscow Oil Refinery in Kapotnya, where a fire broke out.
The Moscow Oil Refinery is one of Russia’s largest oil-processing facilities and plays an important role in supplying fuel to the capital region. According to open-source information, a facility on the refinery’s premises was damaged during the attack.
Zelensky also said that “sanctions” had been imposed on a facility in the Voronezh region, using the term as a reference to a strike on a Russian target.
The president stressed that instead of building new layered air-defense systems around Moscow at the expense of other regions, Russia should end the war. According to him, Ukraine has proposed steps toward de-escalation, including in the areas of energy and food security.
Some of the weapons named by Zelensky are already in service with Ukraine. The FP-1 has a reported range of up to 1,600 km, the Liutyi up to 2,000 km, the Sichen up to 1,400 km, and the Flamingo cruise missile up to 3,000 km.
